All the instruments are handcrafted in France by Jérôme Wiss. The workshop in Compiègne has a surface of 100m2, and is fully furnished and equipped in order to perform all operations in the manufacture of brass instruments.

If the design techniques are modern and based on new technologies, manufacturing techniques are made by the traditional way.

– The bell are made by hand and the ring is a “French type”. The assembly of the brass foil is made with the hard solder, so-called silver solder, and in a single piece.

– The leadpipes stretched on bench with a custom mandrel and a sheet of high strength steel. The leadpipes are made from tubes without solders.

– Tuning slides and other tubes are also stretched on bench with a custom chuck and a high strength steel sheet of elasticity. All the tuning slides are made from tubes without solders.

– The tube bending is performed on a custom designed template. The bending method is performed using a frozen liquid, to avoid the use of lead.

– The assembly of all the parts (once cuted at the good dimension) is made with brass parts made on the lathe. The solder is made with tin. The instruments are assembled without fixed gauges to guarantee free solders constraints. The solders constraints allow to last longer because they are less stressed by impact of the instrument.

– Polishing is done by hand with polishing touret, various pasta polishing, cotton swabs, and flannel for brightening.

– The valve casing is assembled using brazing alloys with silver. Piston chamber are individually rectified/lapped on a grinder with stones and oils provided for this purpose.

– Pistons are assembled using brazing alloys with silver. The pistons are turned on a lathe and rectified with stones and oils provided for this purpose.

– Each piston is unique and obtains a final finish in the chamber that is intended for it.

– Once the valve casing is made, it can be joined to the rest of the instrument using solders with tin.
